Our packing process involves multiple steps in order to ensure that your item(s) arrives safely at its destination. We follow a detailed guide that we devised based on our years of experience in the business. A summary of this process is as follows:
Size and Weight
First, we determine the size and weight of the item in question by taking measurements, using known measurements, using the customer's estimate, or making our own estimate.
We assess the item's fragility based on our experience and information provided by the customer. At this point, we can determine how to handle the item and transport it safely to our facility for packing and preparation for shipment.
Once in our shop, we will surface wrap the item to protect it from dirt, debris, and scuffs. The material used is based on the specific need for each type of item. Oil paintings, for example, need a different type of surface wrap than electronics.
Next, selection of the appropriate padding for the type of item in question. Considerations such as fragility and weight of the item help determine which combinations of materials will best protect the item during transit. Our selection will protect the item from impacts, jarring, or shifting around inside the container. This is one of the most important steps in our packing process.
Next, we determine which type of container to use. Nearly all of the items that we pack will be placed in a sturdy, double wall cardboard box. These may in turn, be placed inside of a wooden crate, if necessary.
Finally, we prepare the packed item for shipment by securing it to a pallet with banding and stretch wrap, or by placing it in a custom built crate.
